Are You Looking for Wisdom? - Part 1
This is part one of a two part blog on wisdom.
I think one of the most important resources a youth worker can have is wisdom. Now that I have been in this vocation for more than 20 years, it seems like this is more true for me than ever before. At YouthHOPE we have to navigate so many different cultures and languages. How do we do it? Besides the fact that we rely heavily on God and his Holy Spirit to guide us and attempt to be humble, we seek wisdom to make good decisions and serve our partners to the best of our ability. After all, the lives of thousands of youth around the world will be impacted by our choices. This is serious business.
Maybe you are thinking, “So what is wisdom?” Well it’s not just knowledge or information. I would define it practically as the ability to use what you have to achieve the best outcome that honors God and blesses others. So how do we get it? I am reading and journaling through the book of Proverbs right now. In chapter 9 verse 10 it clearly states that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord. The author James says that if we lack wisdom, we should ask God and he will give it to us (James 1:5).
Here’s the challenge, though. Often times we don’t pause enough in key moments to pursue wisdom.
